If it takes indie grandpas like J. Mascis and Death Of Samantha's John Petkovic (plus guests Mark Lanegan and Robert Pollard) to remind us now how Badfinger and Blue Ash powered their pop in the '70s, so be it. Even when they risk turning twee, it's with a cool ditty about meeting under a liquor sign. Some of the rest could be Urge Overkill or Weezer. But "Boys In Her Fan Club" is an ace early Cheap Trick rip winking at fascism glam-style; "Another Desert Skyline" is jungle-rumbling sons-of-Sweet fuzz gum; and "Mystery Track" covertly rockifies the Poppy Family's eerie 1971 "Where Evil Grows."
