The Past, The Present, The Future

Jodeci's first album in two decades finds them updating their sound with some success. However, the problem isn't the Timbaland-like digital flurries of "Too Hot," or the synthetic bounce of "Sho Out," but the thoroughly mediocre lyrics they sing. Whether they're growling, "You are my stress reliever, my sex receiver" on "Stress Reliever," or claiming "When we fuss, fight and argue/ We say we leavin' but we never do" on "Nobody Wins," they struggle to communicate passion, which undercuts what should otherwise be a triumphant comeback performance by one of R&B's most important groups.
