Jump To It
It took then-rising R&B legend Luther Vandross to finally return the Queen of Soul to her throne. The key was "Jump to It," her first big hit in years and a big, brassy, post-disco R&B showcase for her legendary voice. As for the rest of the album, it's fairly close to being hits-and-filler. The writing is really thin, and songs like "This Is For Real" will be forgotten right after they're heard. But Vandross produces excellent arrangements, especially on "Love Me Right" and "Just My Daydream," and Aretha is clearly having fun -- check her funky ad libs on "If She Don't Want Your Lovin'."
